Biotech company Gilead Sciences Inc. is treating patients for Covid 19 succesfully.
Gilead GILD is a biopharmaceutical company that is testing a new antiviral drug, called remdesivir, developed for Ebola but now being tested as the leading treatment drug that could save us from Covid-19. This drug has being used on pro-bona terms since few weeks from the development of Covid-19 in China. There have been few medical reports already that showed an optimism toward this drug on some people infected with the Corona Virus treated in France, Italy, and the U.S.
The last report according to the New York Times, was about 14 americans aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship who contracted Covid-19 were given remdesivir intravenously once a day for 10 days. As of Friday, all 14 were still alive and more than half had recovered.
Five remain critically ill, Rear Adm. Richard Childs, an assistant surgeon general and lung specialist at the National Institutes of Health, reportedly said:“Many of them were probably going to die in a short amount of time, and two weeks later nobody has died and more than half of them have recovered,” he said. “It’s just absolutely amazing. It’s going to take us a while to figure out what the impact of the drug has been.”
With the hope that this drug is effective in treating Corona Virus we have to keep observing strictly the precautions that are necessasy for our well being.
