Launch of FAO’s hunger report

The number of hungry people in the world has increased in 2008, mainly due to high food prices, according to new FAO estimates. The ongoing financial and economic crisis could push even
more people into hunger and poverty next year. 

The new estimates on global hunger and the 2008 edition of FAO’s hunger report The State of Food Insecurity in the World will be presented by FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf
and Hafez Ghanem, Assistant Director-General, Economic and Social Development Department.
