The 2015 Italian food industry exports totalled 36.9 billion euro, with an 8% increase compared to 2014. Great performances in a number of major markets, starting with the USA (+19.5%) Canada (+8.2%) and Japan (+1.8%). There was also strong expansion in emerging markets, including: Saudi Arabia (+38.7%).

the United Arab Emirates (+28.9%), China (+23.8%), Thailand (+21.4%), Bulgaria (+19.9%), Hungary (+19.5%), Hong Kong (+16.0%), South Africa (+12.2%), Israel (+11.6%) and Romania (+11.0%).
After EXPO 2015, the Universal Exposition in Milan, the Italian Government set the target for the Italian food sector to increase exports to 50 billion euro by 2020, identifying and supporting a number of success factors such as innovating production processes and technologies.
