Industrial producer prices up by 0.8% in euro area

In January 2008 compared with December 2007, the industrial producer price index rose by 0.8% in the euro area (EA15) and by 1.0% in the EU27, in December prices increased by 0.1% and 0.3%
respectively, in January 2008 compared with January 2007, industrial producer prices gained 4.9% in the euro area and 5.8% in the EU27.

Monthly changes
In January 2008, compared with the previous month, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector gained 0.6% in the euro area and 0.7% in the EU27. Prices in the energy sector increased
by 1.4% and 1.7% respectively. Intermediate goods rose by 0.9% in the euro area and by 1.0% in the EU27. Durable consumer goods increased by 0.8% and 0.7% respectively. Non-durable consumer
goods gained 0.5% in the euro area and 0.6% in the EU27. In both zones, capital goods rose by 0.3%.
Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were registered in Hungary ( 5.1%), Finland ( 2.4%) and Lithuania ( 2.3%), and the lowest in Ireland ( 0.3%), Italy
( 0.4%), France and Luxembourg (both 0.5%).

Annual changes
In January 2008, compared with January 2007, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector increased by 3.3% in the euro area and by 3.6% in the EU27. Prices in the energy sector rose by
10.6% and 12.6% respectively. Non-durable consumer goods gained 4.6% in the euro area and 4.7% in the EU27. Intermediate goods increased by 3.7% and 4.2% respectively. In both zones, durable
consumer goods gained 2.1%. Capital goods rose by 1.3% in the euro area and by 1.4% in the EU27.
Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were observed in Lithuania ( 15.8%), Denmark ( 15.6%) and Bulgaria ( 13.0%), and the lowest in Germany ( 3.3%), Ireland
and Finland (both 3.9%).
