BASF, Indian government and Indian Department of Science and Technology, jointly support the Science Express

BASF, the Indian government, and the Indian Department of Science and Technology (DST), signed on October 20, 2007, in New Delhi a memorandum of understanding to take part in a unique project
called the Science Express – a science showcase that will travel by train to 57 cities in India over the next seven months.
Dr. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, and the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, will officially send off the Science Express on October 30, 2007.
“The Science Express will be an enthralling journey into the world of science for everyone and is targeted to cultivate scientific temperament among Indians, especially the youth. We hope that
this initiative will encourage them to explore scientific concepts and adopt a knowledge-based approach in daily life,” said Dr. Thirumalachari Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and
Technology, Government of India.
The idea for the exhibition, presented for the first time on a train, was
conceived by the DST, the Indian government, the German Ministry of Education and Research, the German government and the Max Planck Society, one of the leading German research organizations.

unique opportunity, especially for aspiring students, to experience and understand chemistry, its contribution to modern day life, and the exciting careers in this field.”
The train, painted in pristine white with BASF specialty coatings called Glasurit©, will showcase contemporary, as well as futuristic advances in science and research.
DST and BASF together will share a coach showcasing Science & Technology in India and the ‘Fascinating World of Chemistry’. BASF will also host its global program BASF Kids’ Lab on the
Science Express. Through this program, participants will get a hands-on lab experience. The section will also include an exclusive and insightful exhibition to foster interest and appreciation
of chemistry amongst teenagers and science enthusiasts, encouraging them to consider rewarding careers in the field.
